- This Higher Diploma programme is designed to help graduates primarily of Computing and Business acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to operate in a mainframe technology environment. It will allow the graduates to become best-of-class software developers / testers with an understanding of insurance/financial services core business and technologies, coupled with the professional skills required to become future technology leaders. The curriculum will incorporate technology (mainframe, groupware development and software testing techniques), professional and business skills and a period of work placement.
- Minimum Academic Entry Requirements
- Application for this course will be by standard application procedure for Higher Diploma courses. Minimum requirement for entry to the Higher Diploma will be a Primary Degree (Level 8) or an equivalent qualification. Applicants will then be required to sit a Selection test, and those who are successful will be invited for interview.

- On completion of this course the graduate will be able to:
- Program extensively using the computer programming language named COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language).
- Adapt the use of mainframe utilities and their effectiveness within the COBOL programming environment, and apply the relevant tools, templates and interactive development environments that have been presented.
- Maintain, develop and test software using recognized techniques and principles.
- Judge the benefits both to the employee and the organisation, of the proper implementation of company control systems, policies and work practices.
- Possess an understanding of the basic fundamentals of creating a client/server groupware application, and in the selection and application of various templates, workflows and advanced scripting techniques
- Evaluate his/her strengths and weaknesses in relation to ‘soft skills’.
- Demonstrate the key marketing and operating issues and principles in the life insurance sector
